Okay, so I know it’s been a minute. A very long one at that. It’s not that I haven’t wanted to write, I just don’t have the time!! I finally brought all my old posts onto this site (not many, I KNOW), but that means I can now continue to write!
I can’t remember the last time I posted, but I will give a general update I guess on what’s been going on.
SO, my contract for the paternity leave replacement ended in November. I didn’t have much lined up, except for some substitution days filled. I didn’t know I would get lucky after just two weeks, but I did! I received a call on November 28th, 2025, from a school roughly 10 minutes away from my home. It was exactly what I wanted; grade 4, full-time position, early start school and close to home. It was the perfect offer.
When I first started, the principal wanted me to do a trial week while the original teacher was away on her preventative leave (pregnancy leave to protect the fetus from diseases). I started the coming Monday and let me say, the first day was rough. I was told by the principal that the students hadn’t really been learning anything for the past month(s), so she really needed me to get started. The students were not ready to work, which is understandable since they’ve basically had a couple months of free time. Overall, it wasn’t the worst day, but also wasn’t the best day. I did however, really want to go back.
The next day, I sat in a meeting with the principal where she asked me how I found the school. I told her I enjoyed it and felt like I could have a positive impact on the kids. She told me she was impressed so far and offered me the job! Since then, it’s been quite the journey. I wrote down lots of stories about what’s been going on, but didn’t post them yet because I wanted to transfer the old posts. Now, it’s time to share!
